Nine fingered monkey from hell

It's Sunday morning, four o'clock, and we've just reached the last 'level' of Assassin's Creed 2. There were slight misunderstandings on our part, mostly with the fact that we did not realize that our copy of the game was the platinum version of the Game of the Year-version, and thus had all the DLC's embedded in the game. Which prolonged the game tremendously. I think I can abbreviate all of our feeling to a simple word:

"FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU."

Now we have 14 hours or so left to finish AC2 and start Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Most likely we won't be able to finish Brotherhood since we're not fast pro gamers or anything, but we're doing the best we can.

Old fags and young boys

It is 6:58 AM and the marathon has been going on about 12 hours - I, being a first-timer in these marathons, have been up all the time, though soon I'll get couple of hours of sleep now that boss has been killed and blah blah blah.

First Assassin's Creed has officially been taken to the end and second game is running on; we started about half an hour ago. Everybody is a bit tired, and levels of "amusing jokes" is just magnificent, but no complaining - we have fun! We have had loyal streamers with us in the chat the whole night, thanks for everyone, and after some frustrating fights and interesting running-from-damn-guards situations, we indeed finished the first game - two more to go. :3

Assassin's Creed 2 started really.. nicely with Baby Born Ezio, shut-the-fuck-up-please-Lucy and Desmond in the trunk; but no more of these hardcore spoilers, if you want to follow, follow! ;3 Stream is going on all the time to the Sunday evening.

Feelings from the gaming group in the moment:
"Yay!"
"Having fun, good-working game marathon"
"herp-derp-herp"
"Can't sleep, too high"
"Fuck yeah"

Assassin's Creed -marathon info

I'm sorry, I promised to update faster but again time went so fast that suddenly it was friday already. As some may already know, the AC marathon will be held today at 6 PM (+2 gmt).

I didn't manage to verify my Livestream account so the viewer limit will be set to 50 viewers. Such a small amount is very problematic so we're looking for other options. We might try to stream at Ustream since it doesn't have viewer limits. We will do that only if we have to, if many viewers are left out when we stream at Livestream. No worries I will update the stream link here.

So again, the games that we're playing are Assassin's Creed 1,2 and Brotherhood. The first game we will be playing is Assassin's Creed 1. Kiraito might be the first one to play since she will be playing only at day time in this marathon.

We will be figuring out our co-host rules soon. This marathon has more players and people to follow the chat. So we might not need as many co-hosts as in the Zelda marathon. But there's surely places open for co-host at night time at least.

More to come ~

Hyrule was saved almost thrice four weeks ago

This is just a small report of our on-the-spur-of-the-moment Zelda marathon that was held in 21.-.25.4. Like I mentioned, we didn't plan to have this marathon. I just figured that since I had four day long weekend I might as well do something interesting then. We didn't promote this marathon almost at all. Despite that we got many viewers which was awesome. Thanks for everybody who were watching! :D

We chose to play Zelda because Kiraito hadn't played Zelda games before. This was pretty good way to introduce her to the series. The games that we played were Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. We're not Zelda experts so it took us all that time to complete two and 3/4 games. The last thing we managed to do in the marathon was to finish the Oocca -place in Twilight Princess.

We started at 21.4. 8 PM and ended the marathon at 25.4. 8 PM. That makes an unbelievable 94 hours of marathoning! I didn't even think that we would be playing that much. Even though we had our hands full with only I, Yufii and Kiraito playing the games, Lefrin visiting on sunday, we survived. I thank all the co-hosts that visited the marathon too.

I will be adding couple of videos from our Zelda marathon later. Stay tuned for the upcoming Assassin's Creed -marathon info!

We are alive!

Finally our team decided on what to play next and when!

EDIT:

Next in our game menu will be:
Assassin Creed 1-3

We'll continue MGS games when PSP streaming is possible in good quality~
Some of our team members are busy before summer, so we will stream most likely and hopefully in June. More detailed information coming later!

Down the memory lane

It's been two weeks now since we finished our first marathon. Only two weeks? Feels like a month at least.

First of all, thanks to everybody who stayed awake with us and helped us finish the games! It has been like a year or more since we last played MGS 1-3. And I apologize for not playing as much as I should have! Luckily our "jack the ripper" sensei was such a hard worker. I mean, player.

Speaking of nicknames, Why on earth did you guys call me "Lentäjä" [in english: Pilot]?! Come on, it was clearly Raikov's hat! And raikov is a Major! Not a pilot!
Yeah, we did some closet cosplaying for your enjoyment~ I was Raikov (and EVA at some point) and sensei was Snake for a while. I didn't even notice at first how many MGS related accessorys sensei had! Raikov's hat, ocelot's bullet necklace, EVA's goggles... even a lab coat, but we didn't find it. Those I remember, there might have been more. And of course, THE Box made an appearance, too. I myself enjoyed the cosplay very much! I wonder if we play more games with cosplayable characters?

I think our marathon was a success~ Despite the fact that I was feeling really sick the last day. Too much sugar and not enough sleep. But the games were awesome, people in the chat were great, and the company was good~
Next time I wish we could have a little more space around the computer, and a chat-master who talks with the chat people and stays there, this time it was randomly someone who happened to be near the screen, haha. I could have done it but it was really crowded in front of the screen, and it was hard to follow the game, and I really wanted to follow the epic storyline of MGS.

That's pretty much everything I wanted to say. I'm pretty sure our next game will be MGS4, we have to figure out what other games we will play after we finish it. I would like to play portable ops and peace walker if we are able to stream them, we could keep the MGS theme then.

Well, stay tuned for more information about the next stream!

First mission

Hi!

I'm Unitama, the organizer of this marathon group. Finally we will make the first official posting of this blog. Of course before this Wepi managed to write about some of her feelings and happenings in the middle of our first marathon, which was the Metal Gear Solid marathon in January 14-16.

Now I will write a bit about our group's small history. This will be told from my perspective.

Everything started in autumn 2009 when I found about the game broadcastings. The interaction between the players and followers fascinated me and during the next year I watched many great streamings and even some game marathons. They encouraged me to first broadcast games by myself and later I started to think about marathoning some games too. Since I had had so great time following the marathons I made up my mind and started searching for other gamers from my small circle of friends.

Fortunately both of my sisters, Kiraito and Yuffie, were more or less gamers themselves, so that was two more members for the marathon group. We wondered which game series we would be playing in our marathon. The Metal Gear Solid series rose up in our minds because it had so many fans. We also remembered that there were some MGS fans in our anime club so we got Lefrin and Wepi from there, which made five people in our game marathon group.

Now we just decided the date of the marathon and the usual small details like fooding and the place where to marathon. I myself knew from the beginning that I wouldn't be playing the MGS games because I was and still am very bad at shooting and sneaking games. In stead I collected all the needed hardware and software for our marathon and during the marathon I was mostly a technician.

In my opinion our first marthon was a success. Sure we started one hour late and we had three hours long pause in the middle of the marathon, but otherwise everything went great. I got a good last minute tip where to link about our first marathon, so we got a pretty good amount of watchers for our marathon. I have to also thank Nes-Retku and his great webpage where we most likely got many watchers.

Thanks for everybody who followed our marathon too! You were a great audience. I hope to see you also in our future marathons.

At the moment we're planning to marathon something in next summer. It may be MGS4 or something else, but we will definitely broadcast more game marathons in the future.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

It's 3:45 AM and everybody (well, yours truly excluded) are sleeping. I promised to wake them up around 5 AM, so I decided to write something here since I don't have anything better to do. I don't know if this is actually appropriate for a first blog entry - we still need to write that introduction thing, but i don't think my brain capacity can manage that much at the moment...

Anyway, about the marathon! We've been playing for... around 33 hours all together, I think. So far we've beaten MGS 3 and 1, and we were playing the second game when our players passed out because they were so tired. Can't blame them. We're still at the beginning (need to freeze those bombs!), but I think we manage to beat this game today. At least I hope so, it would make a fitting ending.

The marathoning & streaming experience has been great so far! It's fun to talk with people on the chat and watch this awesome storyline with good company at the same time. I think the only letdown so far for me has been that I can't play myself because I'm not that good with games like these - okay, sorry, that was an underestimation - I suck at games like these. Otherwise I don't have a problem since I think its fun to watch others play, but when they get tired I can't help out. I tried, and it didn't end well.

Oh well, maybe next time! We already talked about some other games we could possibly marathon in the future, so stay tuned for more. ;D Now the clock is nearing half past four, so we'll be continuing soon - that is, if I can just wake somebody up...
